How Long Do You Think A Couple Should Know Each Other Before Marriage?

Added Date - Nov 19, 2015

There is no exact amount of time that a couple should know each other before getting married because every person is different and every relationship is unique. Some couples may marry after only knowing each other for days and the marriage may last many decades. Other couples may know each other for many years before they tie the know and still end up in divorce court after a year or two of marriage. More important than the amount of time that you have known each other is how well you know each other. In the beginning everything may seem perfect, but both you and your partner have flaws. You need to know each other well enough to know the real person your partner is, not the person they pretend to be at first in order to impress you.

For most people you should wait at least 6 months to a year at minimum before you decide to get married to make sure that you are both compatible and that you know each other very well. The more you know the true person that your partner is the more likely it is that your marriage will last. There are stories about people who were married within days of meeting and then living happily ever after, but these success stories are few and far between. For most of us a lasting marriage is based on being compatible and truly understanding who the other person is. If you marry before you know this then the marriage could be doomed no matter how long you have known your partner.
