Nurses Week is a holiday that starts on May 6th and runs through May 12th. This is a week set aside to recognize everything that nurses do for use, and the compassion that they show when we need medical care. Doctors get all the glory but Nurses Week shows that the nursing staff handles all the heavy lifting and care giving on a day to day basis. The date of May 12 is especially important because this was the day that Florence Nightingale was born. Nightingale was the founding mother of modern nursing and she worked and sacrificed in order to provide care to patients who needed it. Nurses Week can be a good time to give a nurse flowers, candy, or other small gifts to show that you appreciate the hard work and effort that they put in.
