A ghetto is a place where the residents are poor, from the lower classes, or who are different in some way from most of the population in the area. In the past ghettos were used to hold Jewish people during WWII, and in the USA many Japanese people were put in camps by the American Government, and these camps were sometimes referred to as ghettos as well. Today every US city has a ghetto area where lower income families live.
