When you constantly fret over the failures in your past you are giving in to Satan. When you start to repent and live a good life Satan will try to tempt you into evil, and if this does not work then the leader of Hell will throw up reminders of your past actions and the things that you have done which you are truly sorry for. This guilt trip can hold you back just as effectively as giving in to the temptations of evil because it keeps you from reaching your full potential moving forward into the future. The next time past failures or evil deeds from way back come to mind to try and detract you from your path simply remind Satan that he will be cast down in the future and god will put him in his proper place.

In almost every religion past transgressions are forgiven by god and other deities, as long as the sinner is truly sorry for the sin and repents completely. This means that you should forgive yourself for what happened earlier in your life instead of dwelling on these failures and allowing them to keep you from your future goals. In the end Satan can not overcome god, but you can overcome your past and put it behind you once and for all. When doubts and sabotaging thoughts creep in banish them from your mind and remember that you can make it. Don't give up and let Satan win, keep going and think positive thoughts that are motivating.
