It is the job of a husband to lead and care for his wife, but also to honor her, serve her, and cherish her. Many people take the religious teachings and twist them, giving men dominance over women without teaching them to respect the weaker sex and to take their thoughts and feelings into consideration. As a man it is your job to take care of your wife and to lead her along the right path, but this should be done with love and gentle guidance. Only a foolish man ignores the counsel of his wife when deciding important matters for the family, and women are designed to be partners not just dependents in a relationship. If you do not cherish your wife and serve her humbly then your decisions may not be the right ones.

As a husband it is your job to pray for your wife in order to help her be a good person, and to lead her along the right path so that she is honest and virtuous. This can not be accomplished with beatings or threats, and a smart man will listen to the counsel of his wife in order to do what is best for the entire family. While religious teachings do advise a woman to follow her husband and to allow him the place as the head of the family the same tenets also teach a man to honor and cherish his wife, serving her with a humbleness that is inspiring and doing his best to make her happy.
