As we grow up, we realize it becomes less important to have more friends and more important to have real ones. During high school everyone wants to be popular, with a large group of friends even if these friendships are superficial and shallow. As you age you realize that a few good friends is better than many acquaintances. A true friend will have your back no matter what and always offer their unwavering support. You realize that life is not a popularity contest and that fair weather friends simply clutter up your life and detract your attention from the people who really matter. As you realize how short your time on earth is you realize what is truly important and you have less time and patience for those who are fake or insincere. The people who really care and who know the real you are few and far between. When you find them you want to take care to keep them in your life and weed out those who are not real friends.
